Part Information
Balancers are used in applications where a "float" condition is beneficial. Float allows for the hands-free final positioning of an object. The up/down speed of a balancer is quicker when compared to a hoist and allows for a "feathering" operation when locating the load. The pendant controls are ergonomically designed incorporating color coded thumb levers. Chain balancers are primarily designed for weights exceeding 250 lbs. [113.4 kg.] or for high cycle applications that are subject to excessive yarding, twisting or bouncing. The chain is grade 80 alloy steel lifting chain, resistance welded, carburized and heat-treated, with zinc plated finish in accordance with ASTM B633-85.
  • Optional external retract control imparts a controlled condition to the spooling of the cable. By adjusting the pressure of the shock, the spool will only be allowed to move in a chosen maximum speed. This option works well with heavy parts and light end effectors once the heavy part is off loaded, the light end effector does not move at an accelerated rate of speed.
  • Optional high relieving and feathertouch controls help to exhaust air quicker on heavier loads and provide a way to operate the tool without a pendant.
  • Hands free operations can include a dual balance control which is typically used when the lift assist includes the part and does not include the part. Also, a single balance control is offered that is typically used when the load is not removed from the tooling.
  • Knight balancers do not require lubricated air.
  • Knight offers the use of chain instead of cable. Chain is more durable when balancing weights in excess of 250 lbs. [113.4 kg.] and / or high cycle times are encountered. The use of cable under these conditions has a greater tendency to fray or "birdcage" requiring a more specific PM program.
  • Certain applications may require the need to balance a large or unwieldy part that would be better served with a dual suspension point. The Dual Drum Series fulfills this requirement.
  • Tandem Balancers offers the weight capacity of reeved but includes extended travels.
  • Tandem Reeved offers the most extreme lifting capacities.
  • Tool Bench application sized balancers to offer the intrinsic benefits of an air balancer without the larger footprint dimensions of a typical balancer.
  • Suspension kits are available for most competitive workstation crane systems as well as I-beam / patented track.
  • Knight incorporates a standard internal centrifugal brake to insure that any runaway load comes to an immediate complete halt.
  • Knight balancers are CE Certified.
  • Knight balancers have a range of use up to 2,800 lbs. [1270.1 kg.] (Tandem Reeved)
  • Standard travels are available up to 110 in. [279 cm].
When specifying a balancer, it is recommended to use 80% of the rated load to determine your load capacity. This approach compensates for the normal fluctuations within the plant compressed air supply. Balancers are rated at 100 psi therefore use the following example to calculate exact load capability.

Formula for Balancer sizing:
Example: plant air 80 psi, 350 balancer, 80% load capability (0.80 air supply x 350 lbs = 280 x .80 = 224 lbs load capability).
